Sending to OneNote with Hazel

Has anyone found a way to send a PDF to OneNote with Hazel? I currently have Hazel watching a folder and when a PDF lands in it, Hazel will launch a utility to OCR it. Next, I would like it to be sent to OneNote. Obviously there is no direct method but I’ve been trying to think outside the box and I’m stumped.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Some quick ideas come to mind:

  • build an AppleScript that uses system events to select the necessary menu items and press the necessary buttons and call that from Hazel
  • or use Keyboard Maestro to do that if it’s easier
  • check if OneNote is at all scriptable (earlier versions of MS Office supported macros) and if it does write the necessary actions in that and build a much simpler AppleScript that triggers them

I don’t use OneNote so I don’t know what is possible

You can email into OneNote. https://www.onenote.com/EmailToOneNote

It looks like others are trying to accomplish the same thing and have discussed this on the OneNote suggestion forum to no avail so far. See https://onenote.uservoice.com/forums/327165-onenote-for-mac/suggestions/6219270-add-an-applescript-api-to-the-mac-version. Hopefully Microsoft will address this and accommodate their users someday. Emailing attachments to OneNote can be buggy and doesn’t accommodate the same type of automated processing of files and workflow that Hazel provides.

You can just preprocess in Hazel then send
it using Automator.
