Remove calendar alerts from selected calendar.app item

TL/DR How do I bind a keyboard shortcut to something that will strip the alerts from the selected calendar event?

Long:
I have a shared calendar. My wife puts stuff on there. About 70% of the stuff I need to be reminded of the other 30% is just FYI. My current workflow is to click the mailbox icon, click the event, decide if it’s just FYI. If so I double click the item, click “Alert 15 minutes before start” to expand the view, click “Alert 15 minutes before start” again because calendar.app GUI is a nightmare, and click none. Repeat again if there’s an address but this time sub in the travel time stuff instead. This isn’t fun, and I want to automate it.

I asked gemini to write me an AppleScript to strip all alerts from the selected event in calendar.app and it fell on its face on the first part, getting the selected event or any info on the selected event/item. I did some googling and nothing I throw at AppleScript seems to be able to deal with the selection when talking to calendar.app.

What am I missing? How can I do this? I’m comfortable not apple scripting this but what else should I do instead then?

Thanks!

I went to look to see if Shortcuts could do it and it was close except it cannot set event notifications as far as I can tell.

You could persist with UI scripting but another approach would be to create a second shared calendar that you have all notifications switched off for. You could move events as needed or even ask your wife nicely to decide for you.
