If you are outside the network the code is the same except that IP address should be your external IP address and external port number. The port forwarding on your router passes that on to the right computer. Here’s a quick diagram to try to explain the process a bit:
thanks for the help and your reply however i seem to have an issue when i put a colon on the ip address to allow me to put in the port number after the ddns
example : ‘…ddns.net:9’ reports an error stating that nodename nor service name was provided
When you set up the port forwarding, did you give the port a service name? E.g. “wol”.
The error message makes it sound like that might be what’s missing.
